Trump, Tariff and Trade Wars - A Talk Show

The Mechanical Engineering department, along with the Management department, organized a talk show on "Trump Tariff and Trade War." The main goal was to explain how a trade war between big countries affects the engineering industry. The talk showed how taxes on imports (tariffs) can make raw materials and parts from other countries more expensive. This can slow down manufacturing, make products costlier, and force companies to find new suppliers. Students learned how global politics and economics directly impact their future jobs in engineering, from the cost of projects to the stability of the companies they might work for.

The focul point and thus the objectives of the talk show were as follows:

To explain what tariffs and trade wars are and why they start.
To show how these global trade issues directly affect engineering companies and manufacturing jobs.
To connect world politics and economics to the work of an engineer.
To discuss the wider effects on society, the economy, and the environment.
To encourage students to stay informed about world events that impact their future careers.

The talk show was attended and graced by the presence of:

Mr. Sachin Agarwal, Entrepreneur, Om Shree Agro Group.
Mr. Rachendra Mundada, Chartered Accountant.
Mr. Nilesh Bhandari

The talk show helped the audience understand the direct link between global trade policies and the engineering industry, How tariffs increase material costs and disrupt manufacturing supply chains, Multi-disciplinary view from industry, finance, and media experts. Recognition of the partial vulnerability and overall resilience of the Indian
economy. Role of engineers in nation-building and leveraging indigenous growth and thus helped to develop critical thinking to analyze real-world socio-economic events.
