SSVPS BSD College of Engineering, Dhule, organised an insightful and engaging session for its students, focusing on opportunities for higher education abroad after completing a B.Tech degree in India. The session washeld on the 23rd March 2026 and conducted by our distinguished alumna Miss Raksha Gujarathi, whose academic and professional journey served as both inspiration and guidance for aspiring engineers.
Miss Raksha Gujarathi, an alumna of the Department of Computer Engineering at SSVPS BSD College of Engineering, Dhule, shared her personal experiences and expertise during the session. After completing her undergraduate studies at the institute, she pursued her higher education at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), USA. She went on to build a successful professional career in the United States, working there for four years post her MS as Business Analyst. Her journey from Dhule to an international academic and professional environment resonated strongly with the students.
The session, titled “Step-by-Step Guide to Studying Abroad” was designed to provide a comprehensive roadmap for students aspiring to pursue higher education overseas. It was attended by second and third-year engineering students from various branches, with a particularly strong participation from the Computer Engineering department.
During the session, Miss Gujarathi broke down the entire process of studying abroad into clear, manageable steps. She began by explaining how students should start early by identifying their areas of interest and shortlisting countries and universities that align with their career goals. She emphasized the importance of academic performance, projects, internships, and extracurricular activities in building a strong profile.
She then guided students through standardized tests such as the GRE and IELTS/TOEFL, offering practical tips on preparation strategies, timelines, and resources. Additionally, she provided valuable insights into crafting an effective Statement of Purpose (SOP), securing strong Letters of Recommendation (LORs), and preparing a compelling resume.
A significant portion of the session focused on the application process, including deadlines, document requirements, and application portals. Miss Gujarathi also highlighted the financial aspects of studying abroad, such as tuition fees, living expenses, scholarships, and assistantship opportunities. She reassured students that with proper planning and research, financial constraints can be managed effectively.
One of the most engaging parts of the session was her discussion on life as an international student. She spoke about cultural adjustments, academic expectations, and the importance of networking. Drawing from her own experience at UTD Dallas, she shared how students can make the most of on-campus opportunities, internships, and part-time work.
Furthermore, she elaborated on post-study work opportunities in the United States, including Optional Practical Training (OPT) and long-term career prospects. Her insights into working in the U.S. for four years gave students a realistic understanding of global career pathways.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where students actively participated and sought clarity on various topics. Miss Gujarathi patiently addressed all queries, making the session highly informative and engaging.
Overall, the session proved to be immensely beneficial for students, providing them with clarity, motivation, and a structured approach to achieving their dreams of studying abroad. The institute expressed its gratitude to Miss Raksha Gujarathi for giving back to her alma mater and inspiring the next generation of engineers.
The program was jointly organized and hosted by the Mechanical Engineering Department’s E-Cell student volunteers and members, in collaboration with the Training and Placement (T&P) Department. The event was conducted under the valuable reference and guidance of Dr. S Surywanshi, whose initiative made the session possible. Miss Raksha Gujarathi was formally welcomed by the T&P Head, Dr. Sagar More, who highlighted the importance of such interactive sessions in shaping students’ global aspirations. The conduct & anchoring of the session was efficiently handled by Miss Akshata Deore, a second-year student of Mechanical Engineering with us and her team, who ensured smooth flow and coordination throughout the event.
The institute expressed its sincere gratitude to Miss Raksha Gujarathi for reconnecting with her alma mater and guiding the next generation of engineers.
