IP Awareness Programme Highlights Importance of Intellectual Property at Engineering College

An Intellectual Property (IP) Awareness Programme under the National IP Outreach Mission was successfully conducted at S.S.V.P.’s Bapusaheb Shivajirao Deore College of Engineering, Dhule. The one-day event was organized under the IPR component of the MSME Innovative Scheme by the MSME Development & Facilitation Office (MSME-DFO), Mumbai, in association with the institute and the Khandesh Industrial Development Council.

The programme witnessed active participation from engineering students, faculty members, local entrepreneurs, and MSME representatives, reflecting a strong collaborative effort between academia and industry.

The inaugural session began with a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) S. D. Suryawanshi, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department. This was followed by a keynote address by Mr. Abhay Daptardar, Assistant Director, MSME-DFO, Mumbai, who emphasized the growing significance of intellectual property rights in fostering innovation and economic growth. The event was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Nitin Narayan Bang, President of the Khandesh Industrial Development Council, Dhule, who highlighted the role of IPR in strengthening industrial competitiveness.

The technical sessions were conducted by subject experts from the legal and intellectual property domain. Mr. Parvez Kudrolli, Principal Associate at Khurana & Khurana, delivered an insightful session on patents and design registration, explaining the procedures and benefits of protecting innovations. Advocate Sarojini M. Patil, representing the Bombay High Court, elaborated on trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and geographical indications, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of intellectual property frameworks.

The programme aimed to create awareness about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and educate participants on the importance of safeguarding intellectual assets. It also sought to encourage innovation and support MSMEs in leveraging IPR tools for business growth and sustainability.

Participants gained valuable insights into IP protection mechanisms, government support schemes, and practical applications of IPR through real-world examples. The interactive question-and-answer session at the end allowed attendees to clarify their queries, making the programme highly engaging and informative.

The activity was organized and coordinated by Prof. Shivnath Ramsamujh Singh of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who also submitted the official report of the event. The programme was funded by S.S.V.P.’s B.S. Deore College of Engineering, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to promoting awareness of intellectual property and innovation-driven development.

Overall, the IP Awareness Programme proved to be a significant initiative in educating students and stakeholders about the importance of intellectual property rights, encouraging them to protect and commercialize their innovations effectively.
